Services

REPRODUCTION

Farmington Equine Services can assist you in getting your mare in foal to the stallion of your choice.  Our ambulatory service can assist you with mares tat are stabled in our surrounding service area, and we offer boarding for mares that are normally stabled outside our service area.  Rectal palpations are used to determine an appoximate time of breeding, with ultrasound exams being used to assist this determination in some mares.  We offer semen pick-ups from area breeding farms, and we can have cooled semen shipped to us if the stallion of your choice is out of our area.  Our goal is your goal, to have your mare in foal to the stallion of your choice.

FOALING

We accept mares for foal delivery from March through November, with mares being accepted in other months if we have a sufficient staff to handle them.  We use the Foal Alert monitering system.  This system has a transmittor that is sutured to the mare's vulvae.  When the foal or the membrane sac protrudes and spreads the vulvae sufficiently to open the transmittor, a signal is sent to the receiver in the office.  The receiver phones us to notify us that a mare is in labor.
An alarm also sounds in the office to notify any one that is present.  We have used this system since 2000, and we believe it to be the best foal monitering system available.

PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE

We strongly believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  No guarantee can be provided that your horse will be free of disease or injury, but there are steps that you can take to reduce this risk.  Vaccinations are available for such common equine diseases as equine influenza, rhinopneumonitis, tetanus, encephalomyelitis, rabies, equine protozoal myelitis, Potomac horse fever, and West Nile virus.  There are also vaccines available for several less known horse maladies.  All horses have intestinal parasites at some time in their life.  The type and degree of such infestations are dependent upon the age of the horse, season of the year, and the concentration of horses on a pasture.  Farmington Equine Services will be happy to assist you in formulating a vaccination and deworming protocol that is suited for the needs of you and your horse.

LABORATORY SERVICES

Farmington Equine offers in-house CBC's and IDEXX Equine Health Profiles of serum.  Mid-South Veterinary Laboratory, Murfreesboro, Tennessee does our EIA (Coggin's) tests for us, as well as several other hormone and chemical assays.  We have a three to four day turn around for EIA tests performed by the AGID method, including pick up of samples and delivery of test charts.  We can provide for an extra fee a one to two day turn around for ELISA EIA tests, with a faxed test chart povided.  Other tests that may be necessary for exportation or for disease control are available.

DENTISTRY

Ron Johnson, Certified Equine Dentist, is available for your horse's dental needs at your farm or at our Highway 64 facility.  He uses a portable stock that can be set up at your barn, making the procedure safer for you, your horse and for Ron.  Ron has a dedicated following and many repeat clients, indicative of his expertise in his field and his caring stall-side manner.  If your horse is dropping feed, fighting the bit, or losing weight while maintaing appetite, Ron will be happy to examine his mouth for you and assist you in finding the source of the problem.

ANIMAL TRANSPORT

We can provide transportation for your horse to and from stables in the immediate area, and we can arrange for long distance transportation through local and national transportation services.  Our kennel offers air line transportation for our Parson Russell Terriers.
